Lear's Macaw is one of the most beautiful and striking parrots, I think! This pair is demurely sitting together in the Brazilian sun. This is a cross stitch pattern by Lindy Stitches, the fifth pattern in our Endangered Species Club. To see the other patterns in the club, click here.
This parrot was named after the English limerick genius Edward Lear. Before he was known for his nonsense poetry such as the Owl and the Pussycat, Lear was a teenage bird painter. Before he was 20, he published a volume of his parrot paintings which were done, in his own words, “at the West End / painting the best end / of some vast parrots / as red as new carrots.”
